Prof B. Mahadevan is presently Vice Chancellor of Chinmaya University. He is a professor of Operations Management at the Indian Institute of Management Bengaluru, where he has been teaching since 1992. Professor Mahadevan has more than 25 years of wide-ranging experience in teaching, research, consulting, and academic administration at IIM, Bengaluru and other reputed institutions such as IIT Delhi and XLRI, Jamshedpur. He was a visiting scholar at the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration, Dartmouth College, New Hampshire, in 1999–2000. He was also a retainer consultant to Deloitte Consulting LLP, USA, in 2001–2002. He was earlier Chief Editor of the IIMB Management Review.

Among his many research interests, Professor Mahadevan explores ways of using ancient Indian wisdom to address contemporary concerns. He offers courses on Bhagavad Gita and Management and has written and spoken widely on Bhagavad Gita. He is active in inculcating these ideas among his students and the youth through various forums and public lectures under the banner “Practical Vedanta IIMB”. Through his research and talks, Professor Mahadevan frequently interacts with Sanskrit Universities and other religious, cultural and spiritual Institutions in the country such as Ramakrishna Mutt, Chinmaya Mission, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Arsha Vidya Kendra and the Sanskrit Promotion Foundation to spread the applicability of Ancient Indian Wisdom for contemporary society. In the traditional areas of management, the research interests include design of service systems in customer co-creation of value and order allocation issues in electronic markets.

Professor Mahadevan was a member of the Central Sanskrit Board, an advisory body to the Ministry of HRD, Department of Education, on all Sanskrit policy issues in the country. He served on the editorial board of Six Sigma and Competitive Advantage. He is also on the advisory boards of several business schools and management journals in India. Professor Mahadevan is on the board of trustees of some NGOs providing valuable community and social service. He is the President of Samskrita Bharati, Karnataka.
